Dear Debbie,
The mattress is very special. It has no pressure points and the exact term to
describe it is a low air loss mattress. It can acctually heal a sore. No other
mattress can do that.
You can buy them on Ebay. Get one that looses 80 litres of air per minute or
more. They run from $3000.00 to $9,000.00 and often, can roll you 30 degrees
from side to side. If you get one be sure to treat it like gold. Call the
company about air filters and maintenance. Unfortunately, these mattresses do
not carry real long warrenties. I had one for ten years that was awesome and
having to live without it was like giving up hard drugs and cigarettes all at
combined.
Good luck

Subject: [QUAD-L] Purchasing an air mattress

I have been fighting pressure sores and my home health agency has acquired an
air mattress with a pump.  It's called a low leak mattress by drive medical.
It really isn't anything special.  I'm doing a 70/30 rental split with
Medicare.  My monthly fee is $270.  That's outrageous.  They're getting over
$900 a month just to rent me this mattress.  I asked the company how much it
would cost for me to buy one outright.  They said after they had received
approximately $14,000 in rental fees I would own the mattress.  What an
absolute joke!  So I'm going to try to find an air mattress to buy and thought
maybe someone on the list could help me.  There's got to be some used ones out
there or something way cheaper that would still help with pressure sores.
