Happy 18th. I've chosen not to celebrate the anniversary of my accident, but I am going to really celebrate the anniversary of my first full 24 hours off the ventilator. That was four months of hell that I never want to repeat. I am truly indebted to the respiratory staff at the Tampa VA for having the initiative to wean me even after all of the pulmonary doctors thought there would be no way I would ever breathe again. I'll be sending out thank you cards and flowers. 13 years of air.
That reminds me of the sign I used to have in the back of my van window. "Sex is like air; it's not really important until you're not getting any."
