Quadius,

After going through pneumonia the last few months, and being on a vent
awhile, I can fully understand your feeling about breathing on your own! Enjoy
whatever way you decide to commemorate the day.

I have chosen not to think too much about the anniversary of my accident,
but I have decided to embrace the first time I was able to breathe for 24 hours
without any ventilator assistance.
I was shooting for my birthday, August 4, but I managed to breathe on my own
for the entire day on August 6 (today) 13 years ago. In fact, I have only been
put on a ventilator once since then to aid me in getting out secretions. Well,
I do stuck on the end of a ventilator hose daily in order to get some
medication into my lungs, but I didn't start doing that until February 2007.
I had planned on doing something today, but that didn't work out. Tomorrow I
will definitely doing something worthwhile.
