Hey Lori, I got a Dell laptop with vista about 3 months back. Initially I was frustrated. Later when I started getting used to it, I began liking Vista. There are problems, I don't deny. You will have to install all latest programs and hardware, which are specifically compatible with Vista. Try not installing old programs.
Cool thing about vista is it's new start menu and search capability. There is built in "Windows defender' which will save you from spywares etc. I am planning to upgrade my desktop to vista as well.
