OK you guys I need some help. I hoped that I would never have to look for another wheelchair, because I just love my omega trac. But since Medicare will not pay for repairs for it because I bought it privately and came into the Medicare System with a wheelchair, I have to start looking for a new chair.
I want front wheel drive, enough power to get around outside-read that not on cement-with enough clearance to get over small rocks, 2s4s, low center of gravity because I am on a hillside. I have to have tilt and recline, Ive always had elevating leg rests, but I hardly ever use them so they are not necessary. My omega trac has true tracking, when I go across the slope it does not try to move downhill, an air compressor on board which is extremely handy when I get stuck in the horse pasture, because I can raise the chair 4 inches to get over obstacles, tilt and recline, and will easily go up a 45°slope without trying to tip over. It weighs 450 pounds and is not the fastest maneuvering wheelchair out there. JBut is the first wheelchair I have felt comfortable and safe in. My first two chairs were quickie and Invacare storm, both of them broke down innumerable times, and I often ripped wires loose out in the brush, even though we tried to zip tie everything very tight. We are very limited as to DMEs, Med Tech really dominates the area and offers very poor service. So I am trying Accelance and hoping they have some expertise with high quads. Any suggestions before I meet with a sales Rep? Any of you familiar with center drive on rough terrain? It appears to me that I would get hung up a lot of times. I really like front wheel drive as I do not feel that I will tip over going uphill, as I did in both a quickie and Invacare. Any suggestions would be helpful. Thanks. Joan in hot Reno-100° today.
