Thanks Dan

My Dr. already said that after the evaluation he will write a covering letter
for all the things that I will need. Glad to hear you did not have to have a
rehab Dr. Joan

I got a new chair about 6 years ago and Medicare is my primary. I had to do all
the following steps except #3. The only doctor involved was my family doctor.

response:

You deserve the very best, but government insurance is a slow process and for
them to pay you have to follow their guidelines. That would included:
A Doctor's Order
An evaluation by certified Occupational Therapist
A Rehab Doctor's Order for the chair's specific and the "codes"
An estimate for the chair with all the necessary accessories by code are
submitted and approved.

Gov Insurance pays for chairs within those codes. Those chairs outside the
approved codes will not be consider without special consideration and letter of
need by your rehab doctor.

Best Wishes

OK you guys I need some help. I hoped that I would never have to look for
another wheelchair, because I just love my omega trac. But since Medicare will
not pay for repairs for it because I bought it privately and came into the
Medicare System with a wheelchair, I have to start looking for a new chair.

I want front wheel drive, enough power to get around outside-read that not on
cement-with enough clearance to get over small rocks, 2s4s, low center of
gravity because I am on a hillside.

I have to have tilt and recline, I’ve always had elevating leg rests, but I
hardly ever use them so they are not necessary.

My omega trac has true tracking, when I go across the slope it does not try to
move downhill, an air compressor on board which is extremely handy when I get
stuck in the horse pasture, because I can raise the chair 4 inches to get over
obstacles, tilt and recline, and will easily go up a 45°slope without trying
to tip over. It weighs 450 pounds and is not the fastest maneuvering
wheelchair out there. JBut is the first wheelchair I have felt comfortable and
safe in. My first two chairs were quickie and Invacare storm, both of them
broke down innumerable times, and I often ripped wires loose out in the brush,
even though we tried to zip tie everything very tight.

We are very limited as to DME’s, Med Tech really dominates the area and
offers very poor service. So I am trying Accelance and hoping they have some
expertise with high quads.

Any suggestions before I meet with a sales Rep? Any of you familiar with
center drive on rough terrain? It appears to me that I would get hung up a lot
of times. I really like front wheel drive as I do not feel that I will tip
over going uphill, as I did in both a quickie and Invacare.

Any suggestions would be helpful. Thanks. Joan in hot Reno-100° today.
