I had been using larger cameras (all Canon), sometimes using a "mono-pod" for 
stability,
but last year i got a Canon PowerShot SD770 IS "Elph', which is smaller than a 
cigarette
package.  With a 6-inch mini-tripod (a Sima st-101) attached it has been a 
pleasure to use!

Sorry, but I don't remember what i paid for it.

FWIW: I like Canon because they seem to have truer colors.  I bought a Nikon for
my daughter once and hated the way faces always came out whitish.
