Hi Tod,
I tried Atkins several years ago and had pretty good success with it. The problem I found was that I got bored with the lack of variety after so many months of doing it. Pretty much the same with any diet. I think I lost around 10 pounds or more, but unfortunately since I didn't stick to it gained it back and am working on losing more again. I recently lost 13 pounds from counting calories and sticking to 1000 calorie diet. I was doing great until my birthday hit in October and now with the holidays, I'm not going to be too hard on myself and start over to lose 20 more pounds starting in the new year. The other thing with Atkins was it does tend to slow your bowels down a little bit because of the extra protein, so just make sure to eat the veggies.

Good luck!

Subject: [QUAD-L] Atkins Diet Anybody?

Hi All,

It's my turn for a question. Has anybody here tried an Atkins Diet or any kind of "modified Atkins" to lose some weight?

After reading a fair bit about it and talking to some ABs who've done it, I can pretty much understand how and why it works... and how well and for how long, etc. But I don't know of any Quads who tried.

I put on a few pounds between Aug. '07 and May '08 when I was stuck in bed after my surgeries and infections. Now I've been up ~1.5 years and I still have 4 brand new pairs of jeans that my wife altered for me just before all that happened. I'm hoping to be able to get a chance to wear them because altering new jeans is no small deal. And at the rate I'm currently going jeans may no longer be in style (even in Tucson!!) by the time I fit again.

So, if anybody has tried it, I'd love to know how it worked and if it seemed to affect anything significantly... like bowel issues, primarily.

Thanks, All!

Best regards,
--Tod
