I haven't worn one of these in years, but from what I know, which is arguably a little, Texas catheters don't usually cause infections unless you're not being diligent about your hygiene. There are exceptions, however. I mean I got a UTI when I was able bodied by simply holding my underwear a certain way while I urinated. What I didn't realize was that I was putting a foreign element into my underwear and thereby into my urine tract.
If you're getting constant UTIs you might want to have a urologist do a test to see if you are voiding all of the urine when you do urinate. Whenever I was wearing the Texas catheter I got UTI after UTI, but my bladder was retaining about 200 mL in which bacteria continued to develop.
