great topic. today is my 37th wedding anniversary broken neck b/4
marriage, and my visiting nurse is scheduled to chg my Foley. I feel like a
numerologist making the date match a major event by juggling numbers.

About 20 years ago the VA in Tampa used to give a beer a day to the
veteran SCI patients. Unfortunately they stopped in 1995, the year I was
injured. I used to have one a day, but nowadays I can't really stomach beers
too
well anymore.

I have been fortunate enough to have been  voiding for almost 22 years;
when the bladder fills I have bladder spasms and feel the urge to void.
Back in ’88 they were teaching the tap and credae method; and it was not
working for me, until I started drinking beer on home visits. After several
tall cans of barley-pop; I felt this strange sensation, the flood gates
opened and the urine process was so forceful it blew my condom cath clean off
of me. When I returned to the hospital I told my rehab doc about the beer
making me void on my own; and he prescribed me 3 beers a day (my rehab doc
was a marathon running non-drinker), now I just have a couple of beers
every other day. I have been cathed about 5 or 6 times in over 22 years (due
to a full bowel and the few bladder infections I have had), I’ve only had
about three or four bladder infections

So I use a condom cath (Mentor Active Cath) it is attached an MDI (1000
cc) leg bag with four button and two straps.

I just realized today is the day I broke my neck; 22 yrs ago today, half
of my life I have been paralyzed. Just glad  to be alive and still kickin’;
even if the kickin' is spasm induced…. Ha-ha!
