Sorry to read your story SilverStreams, but its not uncommon these days.
Procedures have tighten up so much that no provider wants to invest their
money or credit until they know for sure... they will be paid. Some
providers do not purchase directly from manufacturers. They purchase via a
Co-op
or Purchasing Group which adds another link to the time chain. Mobility
Chairs are usually "quick ship" items. Rehab Chairs take more time and
Complex Rehab Chairs can add months to the delivery times. Sometimes the need
for complex seating and heavy duty chairs can present additional issues as
they are custom modified.
Most Providers/DME are reactive, rather then Pro-Active and don't want to
"rock the boat" with manufacturers or Government Insurance... over one
chair. YOURS.
I hope you get your chair soon.
Best Wishes

Ugh! I have been waiting four weeks for my wheel chair. Supposedly it was
because the medical equipment place had trouble with my insurance. Now it
will be another two weeks for them to place the order and have it delivered
to them.

To us, my husband and me, it seemed like they had forgotten us because the
only time we heard from them was after we called them which had been about
once a week or so. The last time, I needed a chair, it took three days,
but it was a different company.

So, I hoped that some of the list members would share how long it took
them to get their wheel chairs or other medical equipment. I have technically
been without a chair because my last one was unusable because the leg rests
snapped off. The first one went a while ago, but I managed to continue to
use it. Then the other one snapped off leaving a sharp edge which made the
chair unusable. I have learned to walk again, and on my good days, I do
okay. Last night was not a good day and I almost fell trying to get to the
bathroom. It made me so angry because I had waited so long and still did not
have the chair.
