The spinal cord injury model system info website has a detailed information
sheet about getting wheelchairs.  There is the basic overall what you need to
know which includes all the team members, etc.  Then there are additional ones
for power wheelchairs and manual wheelchairs.

Scroll down and click on the pictures for the info about the particular item.

Vendors are not all corrupt.  In business its called completion of a contract
and on to the next customer.  The contract is not completed until it is
signed.  Your OT should be available to confirm that all that was required was
included and works per the contract of sale.
Best Wishes

in short you dont sign until the chair is delivered or given to you and have
driven, tested and tried everything. Once you sign they wont remember you or
anything you told them. These vendors are corrupt because they have a monopoly.

Subject: [QUAD-L] Ordering a new power chair

Hi All,
After the wheelchair provider went called my Doctor for a RX behind my
back, I found another provider Wilpage. But how do I know how good THEY are? I
made an appointment at Kessler in the wheelchair clinic, they work with this
new provider. I go August 2nd and meet with an OT, PT and a rep from Wilpage.
BUT I have to pay out-of-pocket $125 per hour to Kessler because Kessler's
"wheelchair clinic" dose not except my HMO. Wilpage definitely dose except my
HMO. Kessler said it might take between 3 to 4 visits before everything is
worked out. I already know I want to get a Quantum Edge 500 after going through
everything with the other "bad" provider … at least they were good for
something. I even got to test drive it.
I'm going from rear wheel drive to center wheel drive and I'd like to get
ho/low which I've never had before. Is there anything else I should do or look
for/at before my August 2nd appointment? When should I sign for the chair, and
what do I tell them if they ask me to sign the first meeting?
Bobbie
