In early 2011, that figure was estimated to be 84%, leaving 16% "unaffiliated" so to speak.
1. Christian - 2.8 billion 2. Islam - 1.5 billion 3. secular / non-religious - 1.1 billion (fastest growing) 4. Hindu - ~1 billion 5. Confucianism, Taoism, etc. - ~0.4 billion 6. Buddhism - ~0.4 billion 7. other - ~0.4 billion combined I understand secular / non-religious is about to overtake Islam for the # 2 slot. Given that there are approximately 7 billion people on the planet today, no matter which one you choose, your religious beliefs are in the minority and are heavily outnumbered. In other words, claiming that 84% of the world is "religious" as if that is one side of a two-sided argument, is almost pointless. It's a pie with many slices of many differing widths, and just because yours is the biggest slice leaves, as you hinted, no room for smugness. I'm just glad most of the world doesn't practice everything their religion preaches. We'd all be in a heap of trouble then. Greg c5 P.S. I am always happy to not talk about religion with anyone.
