Ron, I'm right there with you. I've been doing this for 17 years and have
a similar problem. I have chosen to do my BC at night and then if I feel
that I have some pressure in the rectum (I am lucky enough to have pretty
good sensation) I have my caregiver do a quick insertion of the finger to
see if any excess mucus will come out. I have pretty good success with
this. I usually only have a mucus accident about twice a year.

I have been told that excess mucus is caused by overstimulation of the
bowel, but I am not able to move my bowels effectively without that
stimulation.

When I have had to do BC in the mornings and then get up I have my
caregiver cleaned me up thoroughly, range me and then right before I get
completely dressed I have her turn me over and insert a finger in the
rectum just to make sure there is no mucus in the upper portions of the
rectum. She will stimulate the best she can and then she uses a baby wipe
to clean my rear end. For some reason, my sphincter close is more readily
whenever I have something wiping my rear end. Once the rectum is
sufficiently tighten, we can proceed.

Hopefully this helps a little.
