A standing position is a goal in progress, not something you achieve
overnight, as Bob V suggested. Bones can soften from non-use and must be
reeducated and harden using training and a well trained physical therapist,
working with your doctor. Besides, the brittle bone issues, the diaphragm is
another issue that must be resolved, so you don't pass out as your body goes
vertical.
Going vertical will benefit a strong bone body and should be considered a
goal and I congrat anyone considering the necessary journey.
Thanks Bob V

I second the CAUTION on standing if you haven't stood in 20 years. The
*average* para and quad has
severe osteoporosis after 20 years. I would talk with a PM&R doc and ask
about a bone scan--best would
be a bone scan of bones in the lower leg--which only a few centers do.

Here is an article I wrote about the natural progression of bone loss
after spinal cord injury. Fingers crossed
you are among the 20% of individuals that for some unknown reason develop
stronger bones as time goes
on.

Hi,

You said you had not stood up for 20 years. Did you have a doctor
recommend standing? You might be doing harm to yourself at this juncture. Your
bone
structure is not used to standing especially after such a long time. I
am 26 years post and I get range of motion every day prior to seating. I
believe that has benefited me over the years.

If you are still looking, I donated a standing frame by advertising it on
craigslist. you can try there.
