I have tried taking low dose antibiotics in a prophylactic method. The drawback
was that it made the antibiotic ineffective and I began to produce some real
difficult bugs. This is why I try to avoid taking anything other than vitamin C
and mendelamine (sp.) , and lots of water. Unfortunately,  I still produce bad
bugs. My GP seems to think that I have built-up an immunity to most minor bugs.
My urologist, after a half dozen random samples! has come to the same
conclusion as my GP. Years and years of infections seems to have given me the
ability to live with a constant minor infection. The antibiotics really only
reduce the infection to a comfortable level that I seem to be able to get along
with. I do keep antibiotics on hand, but I do notify the doctors when I decide
to take any. I still have an overwhelming fear of hospitalization and the  half
wits making decisions there.John s.

I too have been using a low dose of Bactrim for quite awhile and I very seldom
have any UTIs (problematic). This last February was my first UTI in almost
three years. Like Greg two weeks of Cipro took care of that. Thank goodness for
modern medicine :-). I am just finishing up the Outlander series, and I am very
glad that I live in today's world and not in the 1700s! Have a great day
everyone.
