body oils mess the whole thing. I use Dawn liquid soap to completely clean the handles. I also use Dawn to clean the boot and wipe dry. Don't use any liquid glue. It can travel pass the boot and down to the copper base. I use bicycle wrap. Just a couple wraps. Just enough to create friction on the handle.
