I am paralyzed from the neck down so require others to do my cathing. I get
intermitted cathed 5 to 6 times/day. I have not had a UTI in at least the
past 10 years (29 years since TM onset). I had read an article and my
doctor at the time agreed, large amounts of Vitamin C are beneficial for
preventing UTIs and good health in general. I take 1000mg supplements 3
times/day in addition to whatever I get from my diet. The theory goes
something like, Vitamin C is water-soluble, so it is not stored in your
body. If you consume more than your body needs, it is excreted in your
urine. It creates an acidic environment in the bladder so bacteria can't
grow. Anyway, most articles say anything over 2000mg/day is excessive. I've
been taking 3000mg/day for at least the past 15 years with no adverse
side-effects. Do your own research and consult a doctor. My doctor was an
MD and natural pathic who was also taking 3000mg/day himself.
