I think something is triggering your spasms at night but trying to figure
out *what *is the problem/question.

I was having a heck of a time getting transferred into my chair with my
electric lift and my one caregiver and what it was was that I used to NOT
have my legs and feet and ankles lifted up as I was being lifted up off the
bed and before transferring me off the bed. Why I stopped doing that and
having my caregiver lift them off the bed for quite a long time now... I
can't even remember why. I THOUGHT if she left them on the bed they would
be holding my body and I would not be getting lifted up straight (and
therefore not falling over to the right) but so glad I went back to having
them left on the bed as I am being lifted made the big difference (huge
difference). Since I was always falling over to the right and using all of
my neck and upper back muscles to hold myself up as she was lowering me
into the chair... hurting terribly.

I have chronic pain from posttraumatic syringomyelia that got worse over
the years (since 1998) so I got on a narcotic and still am on it because it
helps a great deal with spasms and pain. When I tried to get off of it
close to a year ago... my body was fastening so bad I couldn't even drive
the chair. I am on a very low dosage I was hoping I could discontinue it
since that is such a big issue now. Anyway, when I saw one physician when I
lived in Pennsylvania (small town) he came right out and said "I bet it
helps with your spasms too." So he was not exactly familiar with spinal
cord injuries but he guessed right.

I now have to go to a neurologist because my primary care physician will
not write out my medications for my Psychogenic Nonepileptic Seizures that
I started having after losing my husband. Anyway, he has the CBD oil right
in his office but of course you have to purchase it outright as insurance
does not cover it. For just a very tiny bottle it was $104. They said to
try one drop at that time (I was having severe body pain and joint pain
first thing in the morning after waking up) but I did 4 drops because my
body needs a lot of anything but it never helped me. I finished the bottle
and won't be buying it again.

Everyone's body is different so what helps me or us for spasms will not
necessarily work for you Paul. But think about when they first started to
get worse overnight and what changed.

Another example of mine:

After getting my first Roho cushion or first different wheelchair in 2011
(can't remember) after getting up and in the chair and I would get these
terrible bad feelings (the goosebumps, etc.) and I never figured it out.
The weird thing is is that those bad feelings would stop after a couple
hours instead of getting worse. I finally figured out what it was after my
husband's passing and it was just a guess - hemorrhoids! They never ever
bothered me before so I began to use hemorrhoid wipes and the feelings
stopped. They have never bled or anything so I am not going to have them
removed. I have way too much going on in my life to have that done.

Best,
~Lori
