You don't need another Quadra, it's OK, for working well without the 601-card, IIUW. So don't worry about the Quadra but accept that the card very prob. is defective indeed. I had 4 of this combinations. 3 from the beginning very Ok, 1 behaving as yours. In my case it was a little bit damaged contactpin in the PDS-slot, which I could repair. So check carefully every contact, event. clean first. And make sure you know about the only right way and order of soft- and hardware-installing, using the card.
