I've been helping out in the computer lab at my son's school. They let me bring one of their 5400s home to do some work for them. (They really didn't have to do that, but then I didn't discourage them either since part of what they want me to do is play with hardware and software that I haven't had hands on experience with). Anyway, while cleaning up in the store room I found an OS8CD, complete with installation manual, which they gave me to keep for my very own.
I tried this CD on my Performa 575. It boots just fine. But on the 5400 (current OS 7.5.3) it doesn't. It crashes with an illegal instruction error. It suggests trying again with extensions off, but that doesn't make any difference. I have booted the 5400 off of a TechTool Pro CD (7.6.1, 8.1, 9.1) without problems. Any thoughts on this would be appreciated. thanks, jim -- Quadlist is sponsored by <http://lowendmac.com/> and...
