You are correct. A special "straight-through" cable to the switchbox, and
regular Mac printer cables from the box to each printer. That is what has
always worked in my experience.
Note that many switchboxes made for Macs INCLUDED this special cable, which
unfortunately was often not marked as a special cable, which caused a great
deal of confusion from the outset. :-(
