Also, if I remember correctly, it is the basis >for the Carbon code base (which lives on in the Classic environment >in OS X). On the other hand, OS 7 is much more lean in the sheer size >department if that's critical for you. > I run 8.1 on emulators only. Even then I strip out the fat code, save some room and maybe gain a touch more speed. I've tried it on a 475 (yes crippled abit) to use Appleworks 5 and MYOB. OS7.6.1 does a better job with less overhead, smaller memory footprint and is almost as compatible with anything you get in 8.1, not everything though. There are many ways of tarting up OS7x to look and feel like OS8, a few of these work with OS7.1. OS8 felt slower and heavy in comparison. If you have the harddrive space you can install the different versions in the same partition and work out whats best for you. System picker will let you chose which you boot from. My cable supplier tells me I need OT2.0 to use their dhcp server, that means OS8.5 and not for 68k. Thankfully they dont charge for their worthless advice and a correctly configured OT1.1.2 (OS7x) or OT1.1.3 (OS8, 8.1) works fine. Really all depends on what you wont to use the machine for. I like 7.5 myself, 7.1.1 lives on a separate partition for old things that need it, it can get a little confusing between the 2, they both look similar, both are very stable and they nearly do the same thing. Both feel fast. Only one of the bunch is truly free to just go and try. See what you think. -- Quadlist is sponsored by <http://lowendmac.com/> and...
