I learned from experience that it pays to check the PRAM battery. Not long ago I
found a Quadra 605 that was presumed dead and deposited by the curbside. I had
always wanted one but got stuck on the PC upgrade treadmill long ago. The Quadra
chimed but didn't boot and the screen remained dark. I checked the battery with
a volt/ohmmeter and found 0 volts. I replaced the battery and it's been humming
along nicely ever since. It was loaded with lots of unusual (for me) software.
I've upgraded with more memory and a larger HD. Now I'm trying to get Debian
Linux working on a spare partition.
