Subject: backing up Centrises

Hello. I have three Centrises: one that I'm the original owner of, and two
more that were given to me. I want to back up all of the contents of all
three of them, so I can get them ready for a journalism class to use to
learn PageMaker.

What would be the simplest and LEAST expensive way to put all of their data
onto one external HD? I would need recommendations for external HDs
appriopriate for the Centrises, and what kind of connectors I'd need. My
Centris had a 230 mg HD, but there was also a lot of stuff on floppies that
I'd like to "reunite" onto one HD. One of the other Centrises has a 300 mg
HD, and I'd like to back that up intact.

I had bought a Jaz drive on ebay two-three years ago. At the time, I didn't
realize that SCSI was a broad term. I purchased two different SCSI adaptors
that were the wrong ones. Also I was unable to download the proper drivers
for the Jaz drive. Actually, that could still be the best plan for me if I
knew what I was doing.

Thanks,
Claire

I picked up an external 2GB SCSI HD recently from someone on the swap-list,
a size that would more than handle what you're looking for. Even though it
was formatted in Standard (I think that means HFS instead of HFS+), it
appeared on the desktop of a G3 running OS 9. It had MUCHO stuff on it, lots
of which I didn't want.
Can't remember from whom I got it, but I probably paid about $25 shipping
included. Problem with Jaz as a medium is the high price of disks.
I got an old MacAddict with Ioware (drivers that work with both Zip and Jaz,
I think).
What kind of Centris are you trying to back up? It does have an external
SCSI port, right? It seems to me an external SCSI HD would suit you just
fine. Always some on the swap-list.
