I can boot from CD just fine when there are no drives connected, but as soon as I add one it doesn't boot past the gray screen. Sometimes the mouse will move, but more likely it is frozen as well. My guess is that it's a SCSI chain issue. (I really need to look up the specs on the drives to see what they're set at so I can determine the bus geometry.) Any other ideas? I want to get this "speed demon of yesteryear" up and running soon.
Try replacing the scsi cable and double check the scsi id's.
Have you tried removing the scsi from the cd and using that plug to test the hard drives.
Grey screen of scsi death, you'll fix it. :)
Some early drives dont play well with other devices without a tickle. Post the drives make and models if you still have probs.
