My Performa Plus monitor died the other day, after many years of
faithful service. Lately powering it on resulted in a much louder
noise than usual so I figured something was going but I was hoping
I returned home from strawberry picking to a black screen and a
flashing power light, with that static buzz coming from the monitor
with each flash of the little green light. I knew it wasn't the PRAM
battery but tried a new one anyways. (Good thing the thing hasn't
caught fire while no one was here.) The downside is that the Quad has
my financial records and I'd like to be able to access them without
the added expense of buying a used/new monitor.

So I'm thinking that I could borrow a monitor and then set up the
Quad as a server with file sharing always on, and the permissions
given so that when I boot up the iMac, I can grab info and use
programmes off the Quad's hard drive. I've already got the network
set up.

Before I borrow the monitor I'm wanting to get some feedback as to
what I should make certain I do, and what I should make certain I
don't do. The likelihood of being able to repeatedly borrow someone's
monitor is unlikely so I'm wanting to do it right the first time.

Feedback appreciated.
