...agreed. With 64MB RAM, the fact that 8.1 uses WAY too much RAM for a
68K Mac isn't really an issue, but I'm kinda biased against an OS that
needs 12MB just to boot. 12MB is plenty of RAM for most 68K stuff except
DTP and video work, especially if you run 7.1 Update 3.
The nicest thing about 8.1 is its HD drivers are about 25% (or so - for
exact numbers check LEM's benchmarks) faster than those in 7.x. Might be
useful for you.
That brings up a thought...what if you formatted a drive as HFS under 8.1,
put 7.1 Update 3 on it, and restarted? I wonder if the drive would be as
fast as under 8.1 or if it's a combination of the driver and the OS that
makes HD speeds so much better under 8.1.
