even switches are now dirt cheap; i have an 8 port D-Link 10/100 Switch
that ran around $70 and works quite well.

make sure the coax is RG-58 (50 ohm impedance); RG-59 is a video coax (75
ohm
impedance), and flakey things can happen when it is inadvertantly
installed in
a 10base2 network (i know this from direct practical experience.)

The terminators need to be 50 ohm terminators, as well, not 75 ohm.

The T junctions must be directly attached to the cards; you should not
use another length of coax between the T and the card.

Hubs are not switches. Repeater == hub; switch ~= bridge. I don't mean to
be
pedantic, but to a network engineer (which i was in a previous life),
these
are defined terms with specific meanings.

A "dual speed" hub is a funky combo of two repeaters (one 10baseT, one
100baseT)
and a bridge between the two. They are now only marginally cheaper than a
true
switch, and no bargain.
