Geoport-capable Macs had a 9-pin serial port instead of the
previously-standard 8-pin.  The 9th pin was for power.

Yeah, that makes sense.  It's drawing power from the ADB.  Could be
something wrong with your ADB bus, or you could be overdrawing it somehow.
What other ADB devices do you have connected?
