Thus your old file on the hard drive is gone unless you had set up an auto-backup or had made a copy and put it somewhere on the hard drive. A disk utility would be what you would try if you had deleted the entire database file or had some kind of problem where the file disappeared entirely from your hard drive. I did have a bunch of files and applications just disappear from on of my hard drives one time if fact and I had to reinstall the applications and well a lot of the files were lost. So I hope you can find your backup copy on one of your other disks, as I do recall you saying that you had made one at one point.
