8500 was good but still didn't have the AV features that the 840av had.
I was casually tooling about with my friends iBook and plugged the AV
into my Quadra and hey presto, OS X on a 68k Mac :). The video runs
better than the OS sometimes. Also the sound output is better than any
machine I have ever owned, over a HiFi a 44.1KHz AIFF sounds as good
thru an 840av as it does thru a CD player. I even decompressed an MP3
and played it back over the 840av as an AIFF and it sounded better than
the headphone port on my ibook by a country mile. I don;t think even the
8500av was that good, it also lacked a lot of the clever hardware video
widgets the 840av had.

Sounds like annual budget burn-off to me, just upgraded all there
machines to G4s....
