About the monitor-- Get a Mac VGA monitor adapter. It will let you use a
cheap peecee monitor with it. These adapters are readily available in
the US, I assume they are also available in the UK.

About the Ethernet-- check to make sure you actually have the Ethernet
port on the motherboard. You probably don't. This was an option and most
610's were made without it. If you don't have it, then you need to get
the NuBus adapter and a NuBus Ethernet card. Both are relatively cheap
used but you will have to hunt around for the NuBus adapter, as they are
becoming scarce.

Linux-- Check to make sure that the 68040LC CPU is supported by the Unix
you want. OpenBSD and NetBSD both require a full 68040 and do not
support the LC version. This is an easy fix, just exchange the CPU for a
real 68040. You have to be careful not to bend the pins. I picked up a
68040 a few months ago for $10 USD.

The 610 is a good candidate for increasing the CPU clock speed. Beware
that the onboard Ethernet will stop working if you do this, so you have
to use a NuBus Ethernet card in a clock chipped 610.
