Better to have TRASHED the finder and renamed the system folder "hide"
or "out of service" then done the install - then picked and chose what you
wanted to keep from the superceeded System Folder - if I'm readin' you right?

Have you got a Norton Disk called "Emergency Disk NUM 3.1"
that Norton recommended I use Norton to create on floppy?
Saved my bacon big time - twice it was the only way I got back in to
rescue some work.

Sounds like you have another active computer so check out Norton 
and create that disk - easy and detailed instructions.
Norton 3.1.3 will do.
