I tried a Google search for "87TXM manual" (without the quotes) and it was
within the first 5 or 6 search results.

PC and Mac serial ports are pretty much the same in their function, they
just use different shaped connectors.  Many modems and other serial devices
can be used on a PC or a Mac, just by switching the cable.

Maybe they used a Mac-shaped serial port on the back of your monitor instead
of a DB-9 because some old computers used DB-9 connectors for video cables,
and the didn't want you thinking the serial port was a video connector.

Mitsubishi must have sold them at one point, to go with the software.  I'm
not sure where you'd find one though.

Mostly it looks like the software/cable combo just duplicates the features
that you can do with the normal built in controls for the monitor.  So
unless you need very precise color accuracy kind of stuff, you really don't
need the cable.
