Lordy, lordy, lordy,

The first reply nailed it! I went out, turned off virtual memory, rebooted
and went from 143M in disk to 70M. It never occured to me. I'd just finished
installing a 32M SIMM and figured, hey, with all that memory, why not use
maximum? 'Course I had it backward, but sometimes I don't think too clear...

Thanks for all the answers from so many of you. I'm just getting my system
up and running, and I've never owned a mac before, so you'll likely be
hearing from me again.

This uses disk space just like any other file... and is quite invisible...
