I did this some months ago with a Centris 610 and it worked perfectly but
slow.
I used a cross-over serial cable, see
http://www.edprint.demon.co.uk/se/serial.html for wiring. And indeed the
Windows 98 PPP server. Furthermore, I used WinProxy on the Windows 98
machine. The windows machine was connected to the internet via a gateway.

Browsing the internet, I gained speeds of some 4 kB/sec. however, the Mac
was quite unresponsive, I guess the serial port took up a significant amount
of computing resources.
