For a dialup connection, a modem can be found for next to nothing on Ebay or
the swap list. Stay away from AOL. As for ISPs, although many local ISPs
will say they don't support any MacOS prior to 8, andy pre-PowerPC Macs (or
whatever other song-and-dance they give you), you can get online
successfully with the right version of Open Transport and the necessary PPP
control panel. I would suggest upgrading to at least System 7.5.5 if it
doesn't have it already.

As for a broadband connection, I currently have a Performa 631CD (for all
intents and purposes, the same as the Quadra 630) hooked up to our cable
modem connection. We have four computers behind a router, sharing our
broadband access. The Performa performs (doh) quite nicely. I've put a comm
slot ethernet card in it (again, can be found on Ebay or the swap list for a
few bucks) but you can also use a localtalk-to-ethernet adapter (though this
will be slower and more trouble).

If all they're going to do is share they're broadband connection, it makes
no difference whether the other computers are PCs, Macs, or whatever. That
will only matter if she wants to share files with the other computers. Then
she will need DAVE or something like it in order to access the PCs on the
network. But it sounds like that's not part of the plan.

Hope this helps. I'm sure others on this list will be able to provide
helpful information, too.

Good luck! Have fun! :)
