Okay, Scott, I'm takin' ya up on that! :) I'm a complete newby when it comes to Linux. I've been trying to install Potato on a Quadra 800. Everything seems to go fine until it's time to reboot for the first run. The Penguin booter starts up and runs, then stops and give a message that says "Wrong magic number 0 in kernal header." Poking around on Usenet I found others who had the same problem, and the advice they got was that the kernal had probably been corrupted and needed to be reinstalled. However, I'm installing from the Linux Central CD, not from files downloaded from the net, and I really don't see how the file could have been corrupted. In any case, I've reinstalled four or five times with no better results. The kernal selected in the boooter says "Desktop DB" and the command line reads "root=sda7." I know it's probably something I'm doing wrong, but what could that be? -- Quadlist is sponsored by <http://lowendmac.com/> and...
