Pickle,

    Thanks, I kind of guessed that is what was meant, but not sure.  
Different programs do the same thing in theory and what I wondered does 
Eudora, etc, actually put (") quote marks in?  I agree that I should somehow 
differentiate between the original message and the reply.  It does make for 
easier comprehension while reading.  Does my line with the two greater-than 
signs indicate that it was the grandfather message, yours with one 
greater-sign the father and this current one being the son?  For lack of 
better terminology, I used procedures to describe the age of a backup tape.

I hope all misunderstandings have been cleared up now over my lack of 
understanding what was meant by a "quote" - LOL.
