This is true, but I did a comparison of 7.1 and 7.5.5, both fresh installs with identical settings, the same networking, and as close as possible on extensions and control panels. 7.5.5 was faster on my 50MHz '030 Mac IIci with 128MB of RAM. It may not be this way on all machines or all configurations. What I've read suggests that 7.5.5 is more '030 friendly, and that Finder is faster and more stable, though it does use more memory. What I see when I run it seems to bear this out. I'm sure 7.1 is faster on some machines, especially if you lack memory. The biggest thing I like though, is the reduction in crashes and various Type N errors. As with any other OS, your exact results will depend on your hardware and how you use it. > Did you time startup times? It's *at least* a minute longer in 7.5.x, and On what system? This statement is meaningless without context. While my standard 7.5.5 startup is slower than 7.1, it is definitely not a full minute slower. Both systems boot in under 2 minutes, usually just over 1 minute. I can usually get 7.1 to boot in under a minute. What machine and setup do you have that makes 7.5.5 take a minute or more longer? What is your startup time for 7.1? If you really find 7.1 much faster than 7.5.5, then there has to be some serious differences in your hardware and ours. -- [EMAIL PROTECTED] -- Quadlist is sponsored by <http://lowendmac.com/> and...
