Are there any good mac tools for keeping icon in their custom positions
relative to screen size?"

I'm going to go out on a limb and say yes. Although I have not used this
particular system enhancement, I have found most of the downloads from
www.pure-mac.com to be useful. Desktop Resetter 2.2.1 sounds like just the thing:
Desktop Resetter is an easy-to-use program that stores desktop items' positions
(icons, window locations, etc.) so that they may be restored when inadvertently
moved or resized (such as after playing a game, changing monitor resolutions,
etc.).
