Solaris is pretty nitpicky about stability - or at least, very formally Jdocumenting stability levels(every man page contains a section on this). The solaris init stuff was marked as stable, so it should still work for quite a while. (not to claim it's bug free though).

Catching up with Solaris/illumos and checking stuff works is on my todo list, once i finish off another project. Tthere was someone still maintaining it. Tthere may be some issues, but it should mostly be ok.

I've heard there even be a vendor out there doing stuff with Quagga on Solaris/Illumos.
