Is there a really legible Quantum sign on the back of your car Matthew. I
guess a few curious cats have had their existence terminated as a result of
trying to read make and model names on the tail end of interesting looking
vehicles?

Part of the nuisance to you might be eliminated if you could fit a dipping
interior rear view mirror. If you haven't encountered them they usually click
between normal and dipped by giving the lower edge a push with your
fingertips. In the dipped position you can still see that the following car is
there
but if they are using headlamps the beams from them are deflected downwards
so that your eyes are unaffected.

Electronic message boards can be fitted behind the rear windshield which can
be programmed to give a succinct polite warning but the ingenioius might opt
for a roller blind like device that could carry a suitable warning - I seem
to recall that the police had something like this to indicate to drivers that
they had passed cars who had been overtaken that the police crew wanted them
to stop.

If the problem usually occurs after dusk a message on reflective tape might
be effective..

When I had a 1930's Morgan 3 wheeler I fitted a manually operated brake
light switch - the real motive for this was so that I could leave my brake
light
on if, or rather when, I had a problem with the tail light circuit.
Judicious use of the brake light switch and simultaneous use of the
accelerator usually was effective in dissuading those following too closely
presumably by making the following driver feel that he has slammed on his
brakes far
too hard. I must admit however that roads carried less traffic in those days
and we did not have 125 mile long circular car parks like the M25 to contend
with.
