I don't know about the claims of the non-stretch bolts, but certainly the Ford ones are not meant to be re-used - In fact on the assembly in the factory the bolts are all fastened simultaneously to yield, where the tightening apparatus senses the bolt yielding and stops.... ooer ----- Original Message ----- From: "Steve Kodz" <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Saturday, May 09, 2009 2:47 PM Subject: [Quantum Owners] CVH Head Gasket and Bolt Questions
I very highly suspect that I've burnt the head gasket between 2 cylinders, again, on my H4 with the CVH turbo engine. I've also got a bad feeling that as this is the second time it's done this between the same 2 cylinders that head is probably scrap. I have managed to buy a full FRST engine, which is believed to have knackered big ends, although it turns over freely enough. However, more importantly the head gasket is claimed to be a multi-layered reusable gasket and the head bolts ARP non-stretch. I've stripped the head down and below are some links to photos - I'm showing the standard head gasket as well, including a close up of where it has burnt through - I expect that the gasket on the car is exactly the same. Could I just bolt this head on using the multi-layered gasket and the ARP bolts? Do the non-stretch bolts need to be torqued up differently? or to a different torque? http://www.h4-turbo.co.uk/img/StandardHeadGasketFull.jpg http://www.h4-turbo.co.uk/img/StandardHeadGasketCloseUp.jpg http://www.h4-turbo.co.uk/img/StandardHeadGasketCloseUpDamage.jpg http://www.h4-turbo.co.uk/img/MetalHeadGasketFull.jpg http://www.h4-turbo.co.uk/img/MetalHeadGasketFullCloseUp.jpg http://www.h4-turbo.co.uk/img/MetalHeadGasketCloseUpLayers.jpg http://www.h4-turbo.co.uk/img/MetalHeadGasketCloseUpLayers2.jpg http://www.h4-turbo.co.uk/img/HeadBoltsFull.jpg http://www.h4-turbo.co.uk/img/HeadBoltsHeads.jpg Regards, Steve -- www.h4-turbo.co.uk -- Internal Virus Database is out-of-date.
