I am running 195/60R15 all round which is the absolute limit of what will fit.
Why 60 profile? This gives greater ground clearance to miss all the sleeping
policemen around here, improved ride comfort on long journeys (arthritic hip,
knee, etc.) and last but not least the correct gear ratio for the speedo. I
got around 18% improvement in "real" registered fuel economy with the taller
gearing and 4th now runs at the ratio of the old 5th so now 5th is a real
overdrive. 1st was far too over-geared and is now about right, still geared
enough to get wheel spin!
The downside was that to avoid rubbing with these tyres it was necessary to
remove of a lot of material in the front under-wing area and bulkhead together
with 11 mm rack spacers to stop rubbing on the chassis, having first cleared
away all unnecessary cladding in the potential rubbing area - the turning
circle now is certainly not so good and requires thought before manoeuvring.
The rear wings needed the lower horizontal flange to be reduced by ~20 mm and
the suspension jacked up by 40 mm to stop the shocks rubbing on the tyres
despite using 10 mm spacers. This jack-up was required anyway to get the car
level as it was always tail down.
The wheels look the part and road holding whilst "different", probably due to
the change in profile from my preferred Bridgestone Potensa profile, has not
been compromised.
If you stick to 50 profile with 15" rims then it should be possible to run
without modifying the car or fitting rack stops but check that you get the
correct wheel offset, which I forget at present

Subject: [Quantum Owners] H4 wheel sizes
I've been looking at new wheels for the H4, does anyone have any
experience of fitting 15" wheels?
I've been looking at
6.5x15" 4x108 et38 with 195/50R15 tyres or
6.5x15" 4x108 et35 with 195/50R15 tyres
I know on 15" rims the 195/45 tyres are closer to original rolling
radius, though was leaning towards the 50 profiles as they are a bit
cheaper and will give a little extra ground clearance (exhaust is a
bit low, as the car was built on lowered suspension)
Will the sizes fit without rubbing? Would the 38mm off set ones need a
spacer? I am leaning towards the wheels with the 38mm off set, though
dont know if I want to bother with spacers so may go for the others.
Thanks, Sam
