A good way to remove a broken bolt is to use a dot punch (the type
with a sharp pointy end).
Soak the stud in penetrating oil overnight. You may have to make a
reservoir with plasticine, putty, etc. Putting the point of the punch
on the edge of the bolt tap it GENTLY with a hammer such that you
unscrew the bolt until you can grip it with pliers. Any damage to the
thread at the edge of the hole will be rectified by the bolt coming
out. I have removed "a few" bolts in this way.
