And as far as I can see, the Fiat Coupe 16v twin cam is no larger than
the two liter Ford blocks. The gear box looks a little smaller...
curiously, the length of the engine from backplate to cam belt cover
is identical to the current 1.6 CVH block.

So, if a proposed redundancy happens as expected, I shall be spending
some time this summer fitting part A to part B and hitting until it
fits. Jim Hearne's site looks very useful for how things come to bits
(always tricky if you weren't the original builder) and I expect the
modifications to be very similar to the Zetec 1800.

The wiring on this car is a complete and utter mess, so this is a good
time to rip it all to bits and drop in a Coupe loom, at least from the
bulkhead forwards (and the necessary bits behind there e.g. fuel pump
drive and inertia kill switch, and the ECU if I decide to put it on
the inside where the Coupe keeps it.

Though I say it myself I'm a demon with the Fiat diagnostics, so no
ECU worries, and a friend runs a Coupe recycling place, complete with
lift, and is a dab hand with a welder.

Engine choices... hmm... the unblown engine, with cat and with another
friend's chip, is good for around 165BHP out of the box (my 16NA is
doing that with 160k on the clock!) so that with the turbo gearbox
(for the longer legs) seems first choice - though the turbo is 195bhp
standard, and up to in excess of 300bhp in loon mode. Snag is, the
standard one needs a cat and I'm not sure there's a sensible place to
put one.

At the moment it's a toss up between keeping the Ford steering,
brakes, and suspension or replacing with a Fiat subframe, but I think
the first is the simpler - particularly if I have the NA engine.

So - nothing is finalised, but if things pan out as I expect them to,
there will be lots of photos and 2+2 #Q359 will have some interesting
times.
