I recon the Mondeo could be used as this would be a wider car and be

I'd go for an estate version of the saloon, keep the all-fibreglass
construction.
And make it easier to fit the zetec/duratec/endura engine.
Can't be that hard to find an extra inch of width in the engine bay at
the design stage.
