Hybrid drives, electric power or lpg engines would need to be considered both in terms of cutting the cost per mile of using the vehicle today and looking forward twenty years when conventional fuels will be rarer and dearer. There have been few multipurpose designs ie capable of being converted by the owner from pick up to van from van to estate car and from estate car to open two or 4 seater by the addition or subtraction of panels that come with the car at the outset. This could either be because they are unwanted or because they have yet to be done well enough. The other question is what can be done with what we have. Coupe - a bolt on rear end to offer the possibility of turning the coupe into an estate car or a similar unit that could be made integral with a modified shell.
